The new Intermediate School for Waunakee School District is 156,000 ft² and includes two floors of learning space, a 2 story library, music rehearsal spaces, cafeteria, and gymnasium. The building was designed to be “LEED equivalent.”
In the Design Phase, Sustainable Engineering Group performed geothermal design, energy modeling to evaluate payback of efficiency options, feasibility study for solar photovoltaic panels, mechanical systems design review and utility incentive applications. During the Construction Phase, SEG performed third party commissioning including system performance testing. SEG has been performing Measurement and Verification since construction completed.
The building includes 20 kW of photovoltaic panels and a large geothermal field. It is projected to achieve an Energy Use Intensity of less than 35 kBtu/ft².
