Sustainable Engineering Group was hired to perform energy modeling and geothermal design services for the new Sun Prairie Area District High School. The three-story building constructed was completed in 2010. It features a 1,000 seat auditorium, a four-station field house, a cafeteria that seats up to 1,000, a competition swimming pool and academic clusters of smaller classroom learning centers. The project is one of the largest applications of a ground-source geothermal HVAC system in the country with 343 vertical bores drilled 300′ deep.
Other energy efficient features of the building include a high performance building envelope, dedicated outdoor air energy recovery ventilation, occupancy sensors, daylighting controls, a demonstration PV system.
