Holy Wisdom Monastery

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The Benedictine Women of Madison’s Holy Wisdom Monastery building is LEED NC 2.2 Platinum certified with 63 out of 69 possible points.  Sustainable Engineering Group designed the geothermal heating and cooling system for the project. Other than the geothermal system there are many additional sustainable features including the use of special roofing to decrease the affect of heat islands and a solar photovoltaic system large enough to generate solar energy for 13 percent of the building’s total energy needs.

In 2010, Holy Wisdom Monastery was awarded the title of the ‘Greenest Building in the nation’ from the U.S. Green Building Council.
